Maryam Nawaz Sharif Launches Pakistan’s First Hybrid Double-Decker Buses

Hybrid Double-Decker Buses

Punjab Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, launched the first hybrid double-decker buses of Pakistan, calling for using them as a billboard to promote green tourism and upgrade transport infrastructure.

Hybrid Double-Decker Buses Unveiled in Lahore

  • The five new hybrid double-decker buses were inducted into service to be run on popular tourism routes in Lahore that includes Gaddafi Stadium to several historical sites.
  • These buses will allow tourists to explore Lahore’s glorious heritage while traveling in an eco-friendly modern transport system.

Expansion to Other Cities

  • After Lahore, the buses will further operate in other cities, as every city will have one bus. In Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi, one bus will be placed.
  • The double-decker bus service was soon to be extended to Multan and Faisalabad for further promotion of tourism in the regions.

A Green, Sustainable Initiative

  • Hybrid buses are equipped with state-of-the-art low carbon emission technology adopted in line with the global green transport standards.
  • Having seen and taken a ride on the bus, Maryam Nawaz Sharif focused more on the modern, environmental-friendly answers to the increasing demand of the tourism sector.

Continuing Shehbaz Sharif’s Legacy

  • The double-decker bus service was introduced by the former chief minister Shehbaz Sharif in 2015. While the newer fleet is hybrid, it still represents a continuation of the then chief minister’s ideal vision of offering clean transportation to tourists.

Future Plans for Metropolitan Tourism

Accordingly, Punjab’s Chief Minister Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that her government is committed to increasing the existing fleet of hybrid double-decker buses across Punjab: “So, as we go ahead now with more modern buses, it would be green mode of transport too.”.
The launch of these buses is probably going to boost tourism and will give tourists a different kind of traveling experience while contributing toward environmental sustainability. With further expansion across major cities, Punjab is likely to be the model state for green tourism in Pakistan.
